Mandragora

Mandragora (common name; Mandrake)

Belonging to the nightshades family. The roots sometimes resemble human figures.

Look like frog's legs! (Oh no!!! Prince Charming!)

Now it looks like a scrawny chicken!

Hey, if the deer won't let me grow plants in the gardens, then maybe I'll just knit my own!

I knitted this using the I-cord, bobbles, and the Magic Loop method on circular needles. Since it was worked in the round, there were no seams to sew. The only hand-sewing was attaching branches, the leaves, root strands and creating the bark-like texture and features.

Yarn used is the Red Heart Super Saver. Needles - US #5.

I MOST DEFINITELY suffer from Artistic Attention Deficit Disorder. I am almost done with the sweater I am knitting but put it on hold to finally make this guy. I have really wanted to make him for a long time. Past couple days I have been in a waiting area of some kind or another and wanted a small project to knit, (instead of dragging around what is now an almost complete sweater). This was a nice, small project to keep me busy and after seeing Guardian of the Galaxy with my older daughter, I thought this was finally the time to try my own root-person!

New School Hours

It has been decided that kids need more sleep and should wake up after 8:00.

Huh? Here in Amherst, the school day starts 5 minutes earlier (7:25) and lasts 20 minutes longer in the afternoon (2:19). Mama likes the extra couple minutes!

Also heard students have the option to go for 1/2 days, in other schools (and finish their other classes online). That probably will never fly in this town either. Bringing them into the Internet Age was a task, in itself... required so much remapping of rooms, funds and wiring (my daughter's first day of 3rd grade, the computer room caught on fire because of electrical overload!!! LOL!) To have Amherst change THAT MUCH would be incredible!

Arthur T Demoulas Is Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have our Market Baskets! Solidarity worked!!! The governors from Massachusetts and New Hampshire played a heavy role in resolving the situation, because it had such an impact on the local economies; surrounding stores were suffering and local vendors and suppliers lost tons of work. I wonder if Economic and Sociology courses will study this, in the future?

I absolutely LOVED MB's brand new store and now I am able to shop there again. A year or more ago, the Demoulas family closed two stores on 101A and opened up a brand new, huge, gorgeous one, right next to one of the old locations. What a FaNtAsTic store! It was such a crush when I thought it wasn't going to open again.

On a sadder note, I was supposed to be going to the USTA Open, today. I LOVE MY PEEPS, they are going to FaceTime me during one of the good matches, so that I can still "be there"!!! LOL!
