A Different Sort of Portfolio!

I really love hand quilting. It's such a nice, peaceful craft. I enjoy it so much I never considered trying the quilting on my sew machine. Recently, I decided to make the venture and now I really love machine quilting.

I really love hearts! They show up a lot in my knitting, too.

Of course with a last name like mine, you KNOW I am going to do one in pea pods, like the one below!

There are so many patterns that can be done on the machine. Some of the patterns I would never consider doing by hand. The time it would take and the the toll it would take on the fingers.... But now the sky's the limit!

First Free Motion Quilting Attempt

This is my first time quilting sandwiched layers together with my domestic sewing machine. And this is my first rag quilt!

I wanted to learn how to use my Singer to do the decorative quilting. Hand quilting is nice, but takes so long and really takes its toll on the finger tips. Machine quilting is much quicker and doing filler patterns is much more reasonable.

And Tada! The blue side with the rag seams is the front and the multi=colored blocks is the back.

This quilt is approximately 6o" x 71". Perfect size to snuggle under and long enough to stretch out long legs! Fabrics on the top and bottom are cotton and sandwiched between is cotton batting.

Have You Ever Wondered How It Sews?

Exactly how a sewing machine works has always been a mystery to me.

Now I think it's just down-right genius!!!
