Ice Sickles, Indeed!

A few days ago, my daughter was out enjoying the snow squall when she took this picture.

Needless to say, I was whacking at ice sickles with a broom, from windows, very soon after (high-tech New England method).

Could you imagine the damage those cold, sharp things could do if they fell? (I'm already fearful of the damage they've done to the roof, with all the expanding and contracting. Or should I say, "I don't want to know"... )

Thank you for visiting. Hope you came again!

American Idol Contestant

Wishing Alex Philbrick Preston the best of luck as he moves forward!!!!

Alex graduated from Souhegan High School in Amherst, NH, in 2011 and it's so exciting to watch his progress on American Idol.

He's a nice guy. Tuesday afternoon (of last week), he came home and did an "Impromptu Gig" at SHS. That was super fun for the kids.

Keepin' the fingers crossed.

Thank you for visiting. Hope you came again!

Ripping My Heart Out....

I can't tell you how many times, but the result is worth it!

Finally, the back is done. Not following a pattern for this one. I wanted to use the heart pattern and basically put some good cable pattern panels around the heart's panel.

I love hearts. Hearts of any kind. Some are drawn to Angels and figures of them, I am drawn to hearts (and roses)...
...I also am very interested the Queen of Hearts - yes, the playing card (playing cards in general, for they relate greatly to so much more than just games). The Queen of Hearts card is based on Queen Elizabeth of York; born on the 11th of February and died at the young age of 37, on the 11th of February (go figure, my birthday!). There is a great deal about her and her Tudor family I find fascinating. Aaah, to be loved so much as Queen Elizabeth was, by King Henry VII (a marriage starting off as a political arranged).
...Also the suit of hearts represents Spring. My favorite time of year because my gardens begin to come alive. I eagerly await each plant and their time! It is also when the cold is gone and all warms up again.
... Each suit represents the stages of life. Hearts correspond with childhood - Spring season, the element Fire, the Youth and Love. Hearts represent early association with family and friends, first love. As a Fire, Hearts are able to sacrifice for country, family, friend, cause. Hearts rule art, music, poetry, any pursuit of beauty in any form. (The Seven Reflections)
OH, Hearts. Sadly, I have been told I am the Ace of Spades....

Here are some more interesting --}factoids--{ about cards and their various meanings! Should check it out.

Ummm, Ummm, Good!

With both daughters off doing their own thing all day, there was lots of time to make turkey soup with the remaining leftovers from a big dinner we had on Friday night.

Boy, there is no better way to fill a quiet house then with good music and good kitchen smells. I love cooking and it's all worth it each time my daughters tell me I should open my own restaurant (I know they are saying that in appreciation - they're great kids).

Thank you for visiting. Hope you came again!

Last Night's Winter Storm

Isn't this the most beautiful site to wake up and see? I know happiness comes from within but it's great to have a spiritual reminder like this. Puts all else in perspective, huh?

Rained buckets and we even had a rare thunderstorm with vivid lightening. Now there's so much moisture out there, the trees by the swamp are steaming. These photos just can't do this moment justice.

Overnight, all that rain then froze beneath the van. As a result, the van's backend slid sideways more than 2 feet! Usually the two cars are parked parallel, but not this morning!

Thank you for visiting. Hope you came again!

Morning After The Big Storm

This is the window box, outside the family room's window.

There was about 4" remaining from prior storms, the rest is all new!

Predicting more snow today. :\ Going to be a faster storm, with wetter snow so it just may take some inches away from this pile.

Thank you for visiting. Hope you came again!

How Appropriate For My 50th Valentine's Day!

My Valentine's Day's Project!

Well, storm or no storm, Valentine's Day was a quiet one, at home (after being spoiled for my birthday!). Thought it would be a good opportunity to work out this old heart pattern (center). The actual heart cable pattern is from an old knitting magazine. I had the pattern jotted down but wish I could find the actual magazine.

Don't you agree this is the perfect sweater pattern to start on Valentine's Day? I like it so much, I am going to keep going.

I am so excited about a new book of cable patterns I just ordered; although I don't think this heart pattern will be there... I haven't seen it again. BUT there are some really fun patterns like this one!

Today we are expecting another blizzard. LOL! The last I heard, it was going to stay south and not be much. GOOD! LOL! My Broom doesn't like the snow. :D

Pile and Piles of Snow! Oh My!

As you can imagine, a couple inches is considered a dusting, around here! :D

My daughters and I were running errands today and couldn't believe how high the snow mounds were.

This is what they use to clear some of the lots.

After the crews are done with the plowing, it's more practical for them to just leave the machine there for the next time!

To date, this is how much they've plowed. That is including all the warm days, rainy weather, and some February sun...

Official MC LAUGHLIN Clan Aran Pattern!

(Maiden name)

I did some research and found that this is the official aran cable pattern for the Mc Laughlin (Mac Lochlainn, Mc Gloughlin, Mc Laughlane, Mc Laughlin, Mc Lochlin) clan! OK, according to this website...

CLAN SWEATER PATTERN

It is said that the pattern was worn by the entire family as sort of an "identity" so that if the fisherman should be drown, he could be identified weeks later by the sweater pattern. So technically, any family can have an Aran sweater pattern, not just an old Irish clan!

Clicking on the image, you'll see ALL the info for the patterns and supplies.

I think I just may have to figure out the pattern and make it myself! I have the charts for most of these knitted textures.

Snow Day Means Aran Knitting Day!

With the amount of snow we are getting today and how heavy it's coming down, it's a Aran knitting day for sure!
