Seen Several Stories

Hello again!
Ever since I had fun reborning a couple doll kits; one cheap and one free (whole doll, already painted by the manufacturer), I have seen a lot of TV stories and e-articles on reborns in United Kingdom.

Apparently, reborn dolls are big in the UK, but not only for children. They are also therapeutic and greatly used for those whom are suffering a loss of a child or for the elderly.
Therapy Dolls

I feel badly for dismissing these dolls and the people who paint them. I have a new respect and will enjoy making another. It will be fun to see how difficult rooting hair will be. Perhaps there really is someone that could use the doll, here in the States, besides a child?

I Am So Incredibly PrOuD of My Cousin (and happy for her husband I could burst)

Hello again!
My cousin's husband has been really sick for a long time and recently received the life saving operation he needed.

Here are some articles which were reported on New York TV and in an article about the incredible donation my cousin and another couple made on her husband's behalf and on a brother's behalf.

What a wonderful way to celebrate.... life.

Hello again!
Here's a dress I just finished. It is basically something I had to redesign because I couldn't find my other patterns. There are things I'd do differently when it's one for sale.

I also figured out how to install a pacifier with magnets. Pretty fun! There are other cool things magnets can do, regarding these reborn dolls!

When I have more dresses finished, I'll post them. In the meantime, thank you for stopping by. Please come again.

Final Grades Were Posted

Hi everyone!
I passed this semester! I can't believe it but I got an A and an A-!I will be taking psychology next semester (jan 23) and hopefully this class will be a bit easier. I have an declared minor in psychology, just never took Intro to Psychology. Hopefully it hasn't changed that much, after all these years.

What a great early Christmas present.

Another Bun, Fresh Out of the Oven!

Hello again!
This is Rose. She is my second reborn doll. This one is a Berenguer, #18. The original skin color was terrible. I applied many MaNy layers of flesh paint before even starting the veins.

It's a hard-body doll and was a lot of work, reborning the whole doll. The vinyl is not the soft vinyl like the dolls of today, making it hard to root hair. Have more mohair on order and will try using a heat gun to soften the vinyl, first.

These dolls are very popular for artist to create. The reborn dolls are also very popular among buyers (search of Ebay and you'll see how much these dolls are loved). Buying an unfinished doll to complete, isn't cheap. The finished reborn dolls can also be very expensive.

I managed to acquire these two dolls, for a really great price. One was a true reborn (previously painted, stripped and repainted) and the other doll was created for the sole intention of an artist to buy and paint. Who knows if I'll be one of those that sells the reborn, they are fun to paint....

My First Reborn Doll!

Hello again!
I originally purchased this doll to use as a model for my clay sculpting. After purchasing the doll, I did a little research on reborning dolls and boy was that stupid. It didn't take long before I was hooked.

Aaaarg! When There's Something Specific In The Mail

Hello again!
Frustrated!!!!! According to the Post Office, no type of weather will keep them from their expected rounds... except for a perfectly clear, cold night!!!!!

Since last Thursday I have patiently waiting for Monday (yesterday) to come. I am expecting a lot of deliveries. Usually our mail comes sometime around 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon. Starting at that time, I began doing to window vigil. Finally gave up at 8:00 at night; thinking the mail people were concerned that if they left deliveries in the driveway after dark, they would be stolen. Therefor no mail person would leave boxes in the driveway.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me, today! I really want to have these packages delivered, opened and re-wrapped!!!!!!

Final Drawing for My Lab Class

Hello again!
For my lab class, the final is to draw something we learned in lab. Can not be drawn from another drawing, but can be drawn from a photo, model or plastic bone. I chose the human heart.

After the drawing is completed we were supposed to label them with numbers and submit a corresponding key for the answers.

We were also supposed to have a margin around the image, because the professor plans on publishing a book with some of the drawings. I hope mine is selected for her book!

Still waiting for some of my grades from tests last week and am looking forward to finals, next week!

Thank you for stopping by. Please come again.

Still Hanging On....

Well, so far my averages for my classes are passing with A grades and B grades. Now there is just one more test, a finals and a lab (journal-style) book.

Can't believe the semester is almost over, already.

Christmas Tree is Done!

Hello again!
Here's just one of my rooms decorated for Christmas. This is the one room where the tree resides... but every room looks like someone sneezed Christmas! But the decorations are too spread apart to photograph.

Having such a great time decorating this year. Will take a picture of the window boxes, tomorrow.

WOW!

I have been thinking about my old roommate, recently... She suddenly popped into my head a few months ago and I have been thinking about her a lot, since.

Don't you know it, she's been thinking about me too. She had been spending a bit of time looking for me and alas she found me. Boy, she sounds good. So many great things, we are going to hook up for a girls' day; she's actually not too far away.

We went to my first college together and lost track we transferred out. It wasn't the best first year of school and guess neither one of us wanted to remember (until now).

I can't believe she found me! Whatta a great surprise. I am thankful for the unexpected!

Been A While Since I Listed

Hello again!
It's been a while since I listed something on Etsy. It's an art doll named Flora.

I love her and wanted to share her. Since I am currently working on another art doll, I thought now would be a good time to sell Flora. She's priced high but I think she's worth it and am in no rush to sell. Each art doll takes a long time to create and each element is painstakingly done by hand, with elements which are not inexpensive.

I hope to have more listed in the new year. It's hard because I am also continuing my endeavors in the science department in our local college (and being very challenged by each and every class ;) ).

Thank you for visiting and for your interest in my listing.

Finally Celegrated Amherst's Postponed Halloween

Because of last week's storm, the long-lasting power-outage and the damage it created, we had our Halloween Trick or Treating last night. Boy it was a cold night.

This year wasn't 1/2 the celebration it's been in past years. Most of the houses didn't participate and a lot of the kids stayed home. We strolled the village with friends and their children and did it in no time at all.

Meredith's costume is hard to see, because her wings are behind her; she's dressed as a Jailbird. Laura's costume is a Japanese character from one of their favorite video games (don't ask me, I can't keep up and if I did -- I couldn't pronounce most the stuff anyway).

Until next time......

Isn't This Bruggie Flower Beautiful

Look at how far it's come, now. Isn't this flower beautiful? The fragrance is even better! There are at least two more tiny buds. I do hope it flowers all winter!

See THIS post for more information about my beautiful Brugmansia.

Angel Trumpet Flower

Hello again!
Check out this beautiful Angel Trumpet flower which is growing on my Brugmansia plant. I decided to keep the Brugmansia inside over the winter to see how much it grows and if it would flower. This bud was on the plant when I received the plant from my good friend. Since then, it's started two more buds (about an inch big, right now).

I am so excited to see it open and to smell the great fragrance. The bloom opens at night, so I'll be sure to check that room repeatedly, tonight.

Yes That Is A Heart

This is my lab partner Arti and I, in our biology lab class as we dissect a sheep's heart.

Can't tell you how badly that formaldehyde smells! This time was my turn to cut and the texture was not fun; tough. All in all, we had a good time and I am glad we opted to do the dissection.

Well, My College is Open

Most of the people I know got their power back yesterday or last night (50,000 overnight). Wow, that was quite the storm.

The public schools are still closed but my college is open for the first time, today. Can't afford to miss any class time, there is so much material to cover. BUT, I am so sick. I really would have like to have the extra time to recover so that I don't pass my gross germs along (though I do believe my lab partner is the originator of this disease!) Miss one class and that's "Just ok". Miss two classes and she feels the student has missed too much material. I am not sure what the rest of the semester will hold so I must make the attempt to show today.

Well, hope everyone else is fairly well!

Thanks for dropping by!

Nor'Easter Dumped 12+"

(Taken evening of October 29th, before sun went down and the power went out.)

Lost some really nice landscaping and some well grown hydrangea branches. Sadly, a lot of branches fell around the yard from the huge pines and even took out some wires. Hearing the cracking in the woods all around, was a bit scary; allowing for little sleep.

AND THE SKY DURING THE HEIGHT.... wow, I have never seen anything like it and there's been no mention on the news; it was like the world was lit by a huge, flickering candle. The sky was brightly lit, making it seem more like the morning's early hours. (Transformers on the poles arcing?)

Went store trolling and nothing was open except Target. Gotta love them, 1/2 power and still rolling. All the freezers were taped off, but otherwise everything was "good to go"! So it was a Campbell's Soup night (everyone ate the crock pot fixings the night before).

Thankfully the power-outage wasn't too bad. Went out over-night and came back on in the late evening on October 30th. However, that caused a huge problem at the transformer that feeds us and not too long after it knocked out our power again (for the second night). What time we did spend without the power was spent with a generator; hooked up to run the whole house including internet and tv (aaahhhh!). No suffering like the old days, huh?

Thanks for checking in and seeing how we survived the weather (sadly better than the old days)!

Snow Before Halloween

Unbelievable that we will have had 2 rounds of snow before my girls even Trick Or Treated around the village, for Halloween! Hopefully, there will be no snow drifts to hurtle in between houses.

Thursday, October 27, 2011

Snow?!!?

Well, who cares! We just bought our first snow blower!

No more shoveling a 40+ foot driveway by hand for us (not by my choice...). This year I was DEFINITELY striking (started showing signs of picketing, last year). Think that's why the snow blower is in the garage this year.

Whatta Relief!

Hi all!

Got our tests back today and I got an 88% on the lecture exam and a 98% on the lab practical.

YiPpEe!

Test Results Come Back Today

Man, I hope I did well on both tests. Even if it's the same grade as the last time... The Lab Practical is usually easier than the exam so I think I did ok on that.

Keep your fingers crossed for the lecture exam results.

Had a Great Time

Oh it was so good to go back to Holliston and visiting good friends. It's been so long. The Murphy family looked good and showed us such a great time.

"Thank you Jeanne, John and family!"

And here's the wonderful plant she grew from a cutting. See the adorable note she wrote for me on the side of the pot?!!? Hard to believe this late in the season, but it has it's first bud starting. Hope since I am keeping it indoors it continues to grow the bud into a flower.

Please People Be More Careful

This was posted on FB by a friend of mine and is worth reposting...

Whenever you buy a 6-pack, please cut the rings. Whoever caused this probably wasn't aware so please spread the word. If everyone does something small, we can make our planet a better place.

Thanks to Marian Fisher, Carol Alban Flutist and Kelley MacDonald for being the original posters!

My daughter's Sea Floor

Done! What a memory builder! My husband and daughter went down to the culdasac to grab some sand in the pouring rain. They didn't get much but had such fun together!

The project turned out well. She's psyched to turn it in.

Another Day Of Tests

Well...........
Think I did almost as well on the lecture exam lab practical as I did last testing week.

The lecture exam started an hour before the actual class (that much material). Yikes! Not sure how early final exam will start!

The lab practical was really fun. The professor sets up stations with various models with flags on them. We go to each station and name (label) each flag on our answer sheet. Hilarious tripping over each other, waiting for the station, feeling the tension in the air, and watching the thinking.....

This time we covered and were tested on all the muscles, tissues, cartilage, brain, eye, ear, disorders and diseases relating to each of the mention (including seizures--that part wasn't fun reliving) and a lot of nerves and nervous system. Wow people, I am not studying to be a nurse! Last 3 weeks, spent lots of time in the college's library (WHAT?!!?) and studied lots of plastic body parts. Today we had 3 hours between tests so we grouped up with a few friends and CRAMMED some more!

Found out there are a lot of people doing a lot worst in these classes. Sadly, they are blaming the teacher. That's not particularly fair. She grades fairly and covers the material. She has GREAT stories and her tests are multiple choice (no grabbing the answer out of thin air and holy moly -- no spelling to remember!!!!!!!! I have enough trouble remembering how to spell "Seminiferous Tubules", forget during a test).

To be honest I AM LOVING EVERY MINUTE. I am so glad for this opportunity! Now that things are easier at home and I have a lot more free time it's a thrill to be learning again.

Well, thank you for stopping! Hope you check in sometime next week (when she might have the tests graded).

PS
Now off to make a paper mache version of the bottom of the sea for a class project.

Another Visit From Mother-In-Law

I think it's nice that we get these short-term visits from my mother-in-law every few weeks.

She'll be moving in with us, soon (next summer is the tentative deadline) and when that happens, we will already have her incorporated in our daily routine. She is happy that when it's too hot in Florida for her to stay, she has a place where she's welcomed and a "Part of something", as she put it.

We will definitely reap many bonuses having her. She was the oldest of 8 children so she can cook like there's no tomorrow and I LOVE that! She also raised 5 children of her own so she knows her way around a sewing machine and has creative solutions for most things!

Teehee, she thinks she's lucky to have us... shhhh!

Great Day With The Girls

Really had a nice day with my daughters today. We cleaned for their grandmother's visit but for some reason, it didn't feel like the old tired chore it's usually like!

Days such as today will be memories I will always cherish. Thank ladies!

Happy Birthday, Uncle Jim

I feel like I just lost you yesterday and not 8 years ago. (You so easily and readily slipped into my father's role when your brother died... and have left an equally painful void in my heart, when you too died.)

More Pictures of the Air Plant's Flower

Really lasting longer than I thought the flower would. Have been taking pics nearly every day but the flower has only grown a little longer and not much different looking.

I love the purple next to the hot pink. If you look closely, you can see orange on the white. Nature really knows her palette of colors!

Unlike other plants, the plant's flowers are more like an announcement; if all goes well, in 2 months there will to be pups (usually about 8). However, these flowers are not the plant's fruit. Instead, the plant sends out pups from the bottom, much like succulents. When the pups are nearly as large as the mother, that's when they can be removed and shared with other air plant lovers! (Let me know if you are one).

Glad you came to see the air plant's progress! Please visit again.

Air Plant (Airplant) Flower!

Hi!
Not sure which is the proper way to spell these plants. No matter, I love them just the same. (However, I will spell it with a space because my spell check likes that better.)

One of my air plants is actually flowering! What a fun time. If all goes well, I'll have pups in a month or two! Before that happens, I will move the plant to a more spacious place so she has lots of room to propagate.

I'll keep taking pictures as her flower keeps growing.

Protective Eye

Hello again!
Think I need a little help seeing this biology thing through!!!! It's a protective eye (or as some call it "Evil Eye"). Maybe it will see definitions and model flags which I miss!

The green, 16mm glass doll's eye is even more beautiful in person. I have received so many compliments already and I made it just last Friday!!!

Got My tests Back...

Well, didn't do too great on one test; 77% (C+) and the other test I got a 94% (A just squeaked it, too).

At least I did better than I thought!!!!!

Tis The Season

Hello again!
Time of year to change the window boxes. I love this time of year!

Going to look good once the plants mature a little. Kept them in their pots because it's a short season. Since mums come back for me the following spring (if taken care of the over the winter) moving them into the garage (pots and all) will be so easy. Next year, I'll plant them in the ground.

Thank you for stopping by. Please come again.

Finding Out Test Grades

Wish me luck.

School Tomorrow

Haven't found my test grades online, so far. Think she'll be giving us all the results in class. Bummer. I really don't think I did well (despite the number of hours each day I put into the books) and was hoping to have my reaction in private, as I viewed the grades on the college's online "Blackboard". Really know the material cold but I don't test well, especially after this many years without thinking/learning like this. Wish I had the same confidence my classmates had, after the test.

Guess today is going to be a day filled with worry and Blackboard's page refreshing (just in case)!

Sunday, September 25, 2011

Wow...

To be honest, I don't think I did well on the biology lecture exam. The lab exam may have gone a tIcK better, but probably not much.

Hoping the professor posts the grades online before class so I am prepared for the actual test being passed back.

Over 8100 Blog Hits!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

I am so honored that so good number of people find my blog interesting. I appreciate the many which stay tuned and read every post!

Please continue to stay tuned. Never know where I will be next? (Who would have thought I would be in a sCiEnCe program, earning another degree!)

Hello again!
Went apple picking over the weekend. Had a great time. Love making pies with the Granny Smiths. Can't wait for it to cool!
Thank you for stopping by. Please come again.

Look At My Little Hibiscus Gals Go!!!!

These are going to be Dinner Plate Hibiscus (can you believe such a tiny plant will produce such a huge flower?). Called Dinner Plate because that's the size of the flowers! The colors are going to be white with pink edges.

There are a total of 4 plants going. Two really cranking (shown) and two sort of struggling. Planning on keeping them inside for the winter and then planting after last frost next spring. They will be very ready to flower when their season comes around.

Supposed to Have A Test Today

Good thing she put it off a week. Nice knowing I am not the only one in the sinking boat!

I am studying more for this biology class than I did for all the classes I took combined, when I got my bachelor's degree!

Having Fun.

Hello again!
School's going well. Really am enjoying the challenge but it's a lot of work. Not at all like when I earned my bachelor's degree -- this time it seems so much harder! :)

For biology, we have to keep a detailed notebook from class lectures, homework and assignments. The good news is, we are allowed to use the notebook during exams. (and yes I do want to "save as..." just in case something happens to this notebook, but sadly, no such thing....)

Can you guess what cell drawing this is? I'll give you a hint, in the human body it's the only cell with a tail (Flagellum).

Hope you guessed right.

Thank you for stopping by. Please come again.

Morning Visitors

While my daughters were getting ready for the bus early this morning, I thought it would be a great time to grab some laundry and start folding. After filling the basket I put it down in the family room and glanced out the window and look at what I saw!

That explains the chomped-on plants I've been finding in my gardens!

Great Holiday Weekend

Had some friends and family over on Sunday. Our poor little house was so full but no one missed any part of the conversations!

Mother-in-law has been staying with us for a few days and what a great help that has been. Although I love to cook, studying and cooking, along with all my other duties it's been hard. With my mother-in-law here, all the dinners have been made for us and boy are they good. Gonna miss it all when she leaves tomorrw!

baby Dinner Plate Hibiscus

Hello again!

This pot of baby hibiscus and another pot of baby hibiscus just popped out of the soil today, exactly 2 weeks after planting. There are two in this pot so when the little guys grow their second set of leaves, I''ll be moving one to another pot. All the little plants will be staying inside and treated as house plants until next spring. Doubt they will give me flowers while inside, but will be more than ready to bloom early in the garden come next season! It's called Dinner Plate because the flowers are the size of dinner plates; around 9" or larger!

In the meantime, my mother-in-law's visiting and we are have a great time. She's going to be moving in with us soon and slowly we are getting things ready.

Made some really great rolls with poppy seeds from scratch, special today. I really shouldn't have because I have so much homework!!! Tons of reading -- Biology and Medical Terminology. TONS! I don't remember college like this the last time I got a degree. Aaaaarg! :)

Thanks for stopping by.

Made It

I made it through my first day of school! Gonna be hard. Already I am overwhelmed with homework and it was only the first day and I am taking 3 classes!!!

Wish this old girl luck.

First Day

Hello again!
As the girls gathered their supplies and backpacks, the smart beagle put 2 and 2 together and KNEW it was bus time! All morning long, she refused to go out to do her business in the backyard (where she's Queen of the Swamp). Nope, instead she knew it was a school day and it was her routine to be there for when the bus comes, every morning!

My younger daughter was thrilled today was school and she was entering the middle school but my older daughter has been a middle school student for a couple years so it's old hat and she was not as excited.

Am me? I am VERY NERVOUS about starting my first day of school. Biology and a bio lab. Yikes!

Thank you for stopping by. Please come again.

WOW, NJ........

I can remember a couple floods like Irene created, when I was a girl living in Montgomery Township, NJ.

Wishing my old state and all the the people in it the best and hoping for a speedy cleanup.

New Day and No Damage From Irene

Was sort of hoping for a new roof...

Seriously, looking around our yard, you wouldn't know there was a hurricane. Sadly, other parts of the state and VT didn't fair so well. Hope cleanup is easy and quick for them.

Storm's Bearing Down

Come On Irene!
Brought in the potted plants such as the brugmansia to keep safe. Moved things around in the garage and pulled in several other things, all in prep.

Speaking of prep, making this pork roast in the crock pot. Will be easier to run this pot on the generator than entire oven, should the power go out. Aaaah New England ingenuity.

At 8am we already had several power surges and a few good gusts. Has been raining a lot; started yesterday and hasn't stopped. Not sure if yesterday's rain was part of this storm but in most ways, does it matter?

As of 8a, NH has had 3000 power outages. We hardly ever lose power. When NH had the huge ice storm, we lost power but it was back up and running long before the rest of the town. We were lending our generator to others, while they waited. We live near Amherst's safety complex, so our side of the street is first in line to go online.

Love this weather! Wish us luck!

Going To The Bookstore

Wouldn't you know it... Monday, my first day of college is cancelled! What a unique way to start a school year. Funny to be looking for cancellations so soon!

We went to MCC's bookstore and bought my books for my 3 classes. Did so a bit late and was relieved to learn all my books were still available.

My Executive Keyboarding (typing) class is closed so I saved money on that classes books. Fortunately I taught myself how to type well and am skipping the first 1/2 of the class. By the time the second 1/2 starts either someone will drop or another class will have started by then; there were several other people wanting the class.

Can't believe how expensive they were. GOOD THING I CAN SELL THEM BACK! I can remember when I was in college for art, all the academic students would be so jealous because the art students would not have to buy as many books. We artsy-fartsies would quickly reminded the academics that our art supplies were very expensive and we had to purchase new stuff with every new project. Those supplies couldn't be resold, so at least this time around I can recoup some of my expenses (or at least 1/2).

(why do I always look like an old lady clutching my bag?!!?)

Here's my younger daughter having fun just outside the bookstore's door.

When school starts, wish me luck!!

Been So Long

Wow, I can't believe how long it's been since I've pureed a healthy little meal for a little tike! Yesterday a friend's son just had a tonsillectomy, poor thing. But soon he will not be as sick!

I pureed some good pork roast for him to enjoy, for his first real meal (and not ice cream like all day yesterday). The pork roast was slow cooked in a crock pot for 2 days and what was left of the meal I saved for after Joey's scheduled surgery.

Now I am off to cook a batch of brownies for the rest of his family. They love my homemade recipe and always expect it during "family times".

Hibiscus

Well...............
Gardening always puts me in a better state of mind. After this morning, I definitely need to turn some soil and do lots of gardening.

Wanted to share this Dinner Plate hibiscus. Ordered online a package of Dinner Plate Hibiscus seeds and I popped ONE seed into a pot and within days, it sprouted! Thinking all my hopes were put into this one seedling... what if something happens to it?

So I planted some four more seeds and this time nothing happened as quickly with all (4). Looked up online how slow the seeds are to germinate, I am amazed at how lucky I was the first time!

It's so spindly and I am now over-protective - I think I'll bring it inside with the brugmansia, for the winter.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

My husband had another seizure.

It's been over a year. A YEAR! We finally started to breath easier in the mornings. We finally started planning life like normal people. I was accepted to college for continuing ed. Matt's recently taken new job contracts outside our usual 'circle' because he was starting to drive himself. Now what?

He's been so good with the meds and with the doctor appointments, getting good night sleeps and now we are back to square one. What is square one? I know we increase his meds... hello doctor?

How sad. Please keep him and the rest of us in your thoughts.

Recent Garden Photos

Hello again!
I took some photos recently of the gardens. This time of year, the plants are pretty tired of showing off and look it. But, here and there you can see some plants still fully charged.

Hard to believe the snow covers the sundial during the winter.

Here's a new addition to the backyard. Needless to say I try to stay away!

This plant poking between the hydrangeas is a pumpkin we didn't intend to grow. All of a sudden we noticed the huge beautiful leaves and decided to see if the plant would actually be fertile. In fact it was and there is a healthy pumpkin now growing under the umbrella of leaves!
